Molasses-Raisin Horse Treats

Yesterday, my lovely Welsh pony, Elliott, celebrated his eleventh birthday! Although his main gift was that I made sure to schedule his spring vet appointment on a different day, I still wanted to bake him something special. I’m not sure I would recommend these for human consumption, but they are definitely pony-approved!

1/2 cup oats

1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup ground flax seed

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp sugar

1/4 cup raisins

2 Tbs unsweetened applesauce

2 Tbs molasses

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  3. In a medium sized bowl, combine the oats, flour, flax seed, cinnamon, salt, and sugar.
  4. Fold in the raisins.
  5. Add the applesauce and molasses and mix until well combined.
  6. Form into balls and place on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for about 15 minutes.

Makes 8-10 treats.

Tip: Raisins can be substituted for chopped carrots, apple pieces, crushed peppermints, or your horse’s favorite snack!
