Homemade Hot Chocolate for Two

Homemade Hot Chocolate for Two

Sharing is caring!

Winter Storm Elliott is upon us, so it’s been a cozy snow day at home. Thankfully work closed for the day, so Daniel and I got to spend the day hunkered down. Even though the wind chills have been -30 degrees, we’ve still had to go outside several times to check on the horses, Elliott and Smokey. (Look at that, they named a blizzard after my horse!) Anyway, after our last venture outside, we decided it was time to warm up with a cup of Homemade Hot Chocolate. It’s much more rich and delicious than the powdered stuff and is made with real ingredients too. It’ll certainly hit the spot on a day like this!

How to Make Homemade Hot Chocolate

Place a small saucepan over medium-low heat and add the milk, cocoa, and maple syrup and whisk to combine. Bring to a simmer while continuing to whisk, but don’t let it boil! Finely chop the chocolate chips. When the milk is simmering add the chocolate and whisk until it is fully melted and evenly mixed in. Remove from heat and add the vanilla or peppermint extract before serving. Top it off with whipped cream or a candy cane and serve right away.
