Spinach Banana Protein Smoothie

Spinach Banana Protein Smoothie

With all the Christmas cookies and treats around this time of year, it feels especially good to get in some green veggies and other nutrient dense foods. Although it hasn’t really been smoothie weather, I recently made this Spinach Banana Protein Smoothie and I think it will soon be a staple in my diet. It’s a super easy way to pack in a bunch of green veg and some protein even if you’re on the go. The other perk is that it comes together in just five minutes!

What do I need to make this Spinach Banana Protein Smoothie?

This one has pretty simple ingredient list that can easily be modified to your tastes:

  • Baby spinach – Be sure to use baby spinach as big spinach can turn the smoothie bitter.
  • Banana – This is the main source of sweetness for the smoothie. If you’re looking to reduce the sugar content, think about using berries or an apple instead.
  • Whole milk – You could also use low fat milk if your prefer or milk alternatives if needed, but be aware that the nutrient content will differ greatly if using plant-based “milk”.
  • Raw Organic Whey Protein Powder – The smoothie can be made without protein powder, but I do recommend it as there is not a high amount of protein other than what is provided in the powder. If you use a different brand, be sure to choose one that is unsweetened and unflavored.
  • Flax seeds – These provide fiber and omega-3 fats among other nutrients.
  • Lemon juice – This helps keep the smoothie a vibrant green by preventing oxidation.
  • Ginger – This is a great anti-inflammatory food and is great for gut health too. You can adjust how much you use depending on how much spice you like. A half teaspoon of ground ginger could also be used as an alternative.
