Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
In a small bowl, whisk the milk and apple cider vinegar. Set aside for about 10 minutes to allow it to thicken like buttermilk.
In a large bowl, whisk the flour, sucanat, spices, baking powder and salt.
Cut in the butter and using a pastry blender or your hands, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients until you have pea-sized pieces.
Mix the applesauce and the maple syrup with the "buttermilk" and add the mixture to the dry ingredients.
When the dough comes together, gently fold in the chopped dates.
Place half the dough on a well floured surface and form it into a flat circle, about an inch thick. Slice it into 6-8 triangles and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Repeat with the remaining dough. Bake for about 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
